Adnan Tekin was born in 1948 in Düzce. After graduating from high school in Düzce, he enrolled in the Faculty of Mining, specifically the Metallurgical Engineering Department, at Istanbul Technical University in 1965. He earned his master's degree in metallurgical engineering in 1970. Following his graduation from Istanbul Technical University, he pursued his Ph.D. studies at Sheffield Polytechnic Institute in England, supported by a scholarship from the Belgian "Cobalt Information Center," focusing on the development of manganese maraging steels. Mr. Tekin completed his doctorate in 1974, returned to Turkey in 1975, and fulfilled his military service. Afterward, he worked as an expert assistant during the establishment of the electron microscopy laboratory at TUBITAK Marmara Research Center.
In 1977, he left TÜBİTAK and began working at Istanbul Technical University in the Metallurgical Engineering Department, specifically in the Materials Department, as a Dr. assistant.
Dr. Tekin attained the title of "associate professor" in 1980 and became a professor in 1989. He was one of the founding members of the Turkish Ceramics Society, established in 1990. Professor Tekin served as the chair of TUBITAK Marmara Research Center's Materials Research Department between 1991 and 1992. In 1997, he made significant efforts toward establishing the "High Technology Ceramics and Composites Research Center," funded by French and Japanese credits and the State Planning Organization of Turkey.
Professor Adnan Tekin supervised numerous students and authored more than 50 publications, both international and national, as well as three books. Professor Tekin passed away on September 30, 2000, survived by his wife and daughter.
